Background

Fillers are viscous materials that can be injected into the face to improve the contour and/or volume deficits that have been created by aging.

Evaluation

The clinical evaluation involves the assessment of the area of concern and potential options for treatment. Dr. Reilly will work with you to create a plan that aligns your goals with potential surgical treatments based on your specific desires.

Pre-op Considerations

Generally, this procedure renders substantial improvements in the appearance of the aging face.

Procedure Technique

The filler material of choice is injected in small amounts into the desired area. Most often, the areas injected are the under eye (tear troughs), cheeks, smile lines (nasolabial folds), and lips. Occasionally, additional treatments can be done elsewhere on the face, but this is not common.

Post-op Care

Most patients go back to work immediately after this procedure. Bruising is rare, and there is rarely a need for any downtime. The effects typically set in immediately Typically, Dr. Reilly will ask his filler patients to avoid any strenuous physical activity for 24 hours after getting a filler injection.

Detailed Information

Background

There are various techniques to remedy deep forehead creases, crow’s feet, and other facial wrinkles. Dr. Reilly will discuss with you your specific concerns and make his recommendations for your desired effect.
Cosmetic fillers can be used to replace volume in areas that, with time, may show a deficit. Deeper creases and wrinkles that are not associated with muscle activity often respond well with this form of treatment.
Hyaluronic Acids, including Juvederm™ and Restylane™, are fillers that Dr. Reilly offers in his clinic. These injectables are composed of a substance that is found in our bodies, and is a gel-like consistency. With age, the substance between our cells diminishes. Hyaluronic Acid fillers can replace what our bodies have lost; they are soft to the touch, and can be used in the lips and other soft regions of the face.
Hydroxyapatite microspheres, or Radiesse™, is an injectable filler with the consistency of a paste. This filler is typically used for areas of the body where a firmer, thicker filler will provide the desired results. Dr. Reilly may recommend the use of Radiesse along the deep folds of your mouth.
Poly-L-Lactic Acid, or Sculptra™, stimulates the growth of new collagen. Recent studies show that this type of injectable may last up to four years in some areas. Sculptra is generally intended for sites that require deeper injections to yield your desired effects. Dr. Reilly may recommend this injection for areas of your cheek or temple. Multiple injections may be needed.
Fat grafting, or lipo-reinjection, is another procedure that Dr. Reilly offers, using your body’s own tissue; see the section for lipo-reinjection.

Pre-operative Considerations

In the vast majority of patients, the desired aesthetic result is readily achieved. However, the possible complications of filler injection include but are not limited to the following:
Infection, bruising, swelling, scarring, pain, numbness, nodules, lumps, asymmetry, displeasure with the cosmetic outcome, and allergic or other negative reactions to one or more of the medications or substances used in the procedure.

Occasionally, additional treatments can be done elsewhere on the face, but this is not common.

Post Operative Care

The effects typically set in immediately Typically, Dr. Reilly will ask his filler patients to avoid any strenuous physical activity for 24 hours after getting a filler injection.
