Unmasked: Putting Your Best Face Forward – Part III
After over a year of hiding most of your face, we are all preparing to unmask for the notorious “hot girl summer” of 2021. I wanted to share some tips and techniques on how to prepare to put your best face forward. This is the final installation of a three-part series to share some skincare advice for putting your best face forward.
When should I apply sunblock?
Sunblock has active ingredients that are either chemical or physical in nature. Physical, or mineral, sunscreens are essentially what they sound like – a sun barrier that uses minerals that create a physical barrier on your skin to reflect the sun’s harmful rays. These formulas often have ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and can be applied on top of your moisturizers. Chemical sunblock ingredients include oxybenzone, avobenzone, and octinoxate. This type of sunscreen should be applied after cleansing and before any other topical products; chemical sunblock needs to sink into your skin to be effective. The chemicals in these formulas work by absorbing UV rays to protect your skin.
